Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi on Monday said that the dismissed Maruti workers could stage peaceful demonstration at an open ground near Leisure Valley Park in Sector 29 here with prior permission from the administration.
Mr. Vidyarthi said that any organisation or group could hold demonstration or public meeting at the said ground with prior permission from the administration, adding that the dismissed Maruti Suzuki workers’ demand for demonstration at the ground could also be considered if they applied for it along with an assurance that it would be a peaceful protest.
The district administration had on July 11 issued orders prohibiting any procession or sit-in along/on National Highway-8 and the Industrial Model Township, Manesar, allegedly to prevent the Maruti Suzuki workers from going ahead with their proposed protest at Tau Devi Lal Park in Manesar, coinciding with the date of violence last year, July 18.
Reacting to the administration’s offer for the ground near Leisure Valley Park, a Maruti Suzuki Workers’ Union provisional working committee member said the Union had not received any official communication from the administration so far on their application seeking permission for the protest at Tau Devi Lal Park in Industrial Model Township. “We had sent applications and later two rejoinders to five parties, including Haryana Chief Secretary, last month seeking permission for the protest at Manesar. When there was no response, we filed a Writ Petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 3 on the same and the court directed the Police Commissioner Gurgaon to file objections, if any, within 14 days,” said the committee member.
