A Manipur Police constable, his wife and their accomplice who were allegedly trying to smuggle a consignment of regulated drug pseudo-ephedrine on a Guwahati-bound flight were detained at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Saturday. The accused have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
According to the CISF, Chlalkhogin, his wife Chongboi and accomplice Satkholal reached the airport in the early hours of Saturday to board a flight to Guwahati, scheduled to take off at 5.30 a.m. Suspecting they had concealed something in their baggage, the CISF security personnel singled them out for a thorough check and found a consignment of 24 kg pseudo-ephedrine in one of the bags.
“The CISF seized the item and immediately called the NCB officials from the Delhi zone. The NCB team confirmed that the recovered item was pseudo-ephedrine worth Rs.30 lakh in the Indian market and over Rs.1 crore in the international market,” said CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh.
