A 40-year-old man has been arrested at Sarai Rohilla here for allegedly being in possession of antlers of “Chital”.

The accused, Sampann Sharma, was in dire need of money to make good the loss suffered in a catering business and was looking for prospective clients to sell four antlers of “Chital”. The antlers belonged to his grandfather, the police said.

The arrest came following a tip-off to the Anti-Auto Theft Squad of North District that a man in possession of antlers would come to Inderlok on November 7 in a blue car. A team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) R.K. Singh laid a trap and arrested Sampann, a graduate, around 7 p.m. A wildlife inspector accompanied the police team.

Four antlers of “Chital” were seized from two bags in the car belonging to Sampann, the police said. A case was registered under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Sampann, a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, purportedly told the police that he tried several businesses, but suffered losses.
