The North Delhi civic body is getting ready to take on power discom in the area over the use of municipal land for transformers.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has set up a committee that will form a policy on leasing land to the Tata-owned TPDDL. Civic body officials claimed that the discom was using municipal land without paying rent, leading to huge revenue losses.

“When power was privatised in 2007, the land being used by the discom for transformers and poles were leased to them for Re.1 only,” said Leader of the House Mira Aggarwal.

She said the committee will look into the possibility of charging rent for the pre-2007 transformers and poles. “Even after 2007, the discom has been putting up transformers on municipal land, in our parks and on our roads. We will see if we can charge them for those and also if we can get rent for the ones put up before 2007,” Ms. Aggarwal said.
