Two men have been arrested and a juvenile apprehended in West Delhi’s Khyala for allegedly killing a 70-year-old NRI over a pornographic CD of a woman known to them. According to the police, the victim used hidden cameras to make objectionable videos of women at his residence.

The incident came to light on November 15, when the body of Harinder Jit was found in a Shivaji Enclave flat. His hands and legs were tied and a piece of cloth stuffed into his mouth. Prima facie, the police said, it appeared that he died due to asphyxiation as there were no external injuries on his body.

The police quizzed neighbours and domestic helps and finally zeroed down on Praveen Yadav (23). During interrogation, he confessed to his complicity. His questioning led to the arrest of Daljeet Singh (48) and the apprehension of a juvenile.

The accused persons revealed that they had gone to Harinder’s house to retrieve the pornographic CD.

According to the police, Harinder had a video camera in his house and he would make pornographic films of women visiting him. His family is based in Ontario, Canada, and he lived alone at his Shivaji Enclave flat.

“One of his victims was in a relationship with Daljeet Singh and she told him that the NRI had recorded an objectionable video of her. She wanted it to be retrieved and destroyed as he had been blackmailing her using the clip,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) Ranvir Singh.

In a bid to obtain the video clip, Daljeet roped in Praveen and his minor accomplice, promising them Rs. 10,000 each. They went to Harinder’s house, overpowered him and tied him with a cloth. “It seems that the accused had not planned to kill the NRI, but as he was old he died of asphyxiation. Post-mortem report is awaited and further investigations are under way,” said another officer.
