Following a meeting with Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday, Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sudhir Kumar Sopory said that Mr. Sibal had expressed satisfaction with the action taken by the inquiry committee instituted to probe the making and circulation of a compact disc with explicit content involving a girl and boy student of JNU.

Two male students were suspended on Wednesday for their role in participating and duplicating the video.

Prof. Sopory also described the incident as unfortunate and said the authorities could approach the police after completion of the inquiry. According to Prof. Sopory, anybody possessing clips or circulating it would be as much as an offender as anyone else. “This is a very unfortunate incident. JNU stands for many other things, not for these kind of activities,” he said.

With regard to students entering the campus and residing in hostels, the V-C said the security in the university will be upgraded and a committee will be established to examine the hostel manual which needed change. Meetings have been held with student wardens and students, he added.
