JNU professor appointed president of Indian Sociological Society

Jawaharlal Nehru University Professor Anand Kumar has been unanimously elected president of the Indian Sociological Society, a prestigious association of sociologists from across the country. Prof. Kumar has a career spanning over four decades.

He is regarded as one of the finest political thinkers, a respected commentator with a distinguished career in political activism.

A recipient of various academic honours

Prof. Kumar studied at Banaras Hindu University, JNU, and the University of Chicago. He has been a recipient of academic honours from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the German Academic Exchange Service, and the Nehru-Fulbright Programme. He has also served as a visiting professor in Germany, Austria, and the US. His works include State and Society in India, Nation Building in India, India Chronic Poverty Report, Quest for Participatory Democracy, Tibet Sourcebook, and Understanding Globalisation and Emerging India.
