DCPs told to find out the exact status of all such cases

NEW DELHI: The Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Amulya Patnaik called a meeting of the districts’ heads here on Friday and directed them to upload updated data on missing children on the Zonal Integrated Police Network website.

Public pressure

Concerned over the recent public hue and cry over cases of missing children, Mr. Patnaik directed the Deputy Commissioners of Police of all the districts to find out the exact status of cases and update the data on ZIP net. The exercise has been taken up after it was found that in a large number of cases children reported to have been missing had returned home but the information was not recorded by the local police due to various reasons.

Ground reality

“As a result, the data we have on the ZIP net does not reflect the ground reality,” said a police officer, adding that the police were facing problems in locating some of the complainants as they had moved out of their previous residence.
