Hundreds of people belonging to the Jat community are sitting on dharna near the railway track at Mayar village in Hisar district to demand withdrawal of police cases by Monday against community members who had reportedly indulged in violence and damaged railway property during the Jat agitation last year.

They have threatened to block the railway traffic if their demand is not accepted.

Hisar district authorities are understood to have asked the Railways to divert trains to prevent any “sabotage'' and issued an appeal to the community leaders not to take the law in their hands as their case for inclusion in the Other Backward Classes was already under consideration by the Backward Classes Commission.

Earlier in the day, activists of the All India Jat Reservation Action Committee had organised a rally the village to protest against the delay in granting OBC status to the community.
