The first lot of four indigenously designed and manufactured coaches for the Jaipur Metro will arrive here by May 20. The coaches, flagged off from the Bharat Earth Movers Limited premises in Bangalore on Monday night, left for Jaipur by road.
Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Chairman-cum-Managing Director N. C. Goyal said here the Jaipur Metro would be the first in the country comprising totally indigenous coaches. The metro coaches were earlier manufactured by BEML for other cities in collaboration with foreign companies.
Mr. Goyal said the number of labourers had been increased to complete the metro track on time and the dream project for the Pink City was being reviewed regularly. The signalling work will start after the delivery of rolling stock in the stabling yard in Mansarovar here.
The metro rake will also be subjected to safety tests before it is deployed on the 9.5-km-long route in the first phase connecting the Walled City with outer Jaipur. Urban Development Minister Shanti Dhariwal will review the progress of Metro’s phase 1-A with the officers of Jaipur Metro and Delhi Metro here on Thursday.
