Police heads discuss safety during polls

To evolve a strategy for the smooth conduct of the upcoming Assembly elections, an inter-State coordination meeting was held at the Delhi Police Headquarters on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi and attended by senior officers of the Delhi Police and those from Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

A statement issued said the meeting discussed the issue of surveillance over criminal elements and musclemen in the neighbouring States and their movement in Delhi. It called for the need to step up vigil at the border check posts to curtail smuggling of liquor and trafficking of illegal fire arms, besides transportation of currency.
