On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Monday, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar interacted with 31 children with disabilities in Parliament Library.

She said that all efforts should be made to ensure that differently-abled persons came into the national mainstream and contributed in social life. She felt that the legislative provisions and programmes envisioned for their welfare should be implemented in the right spirit so that benefits percolate down to the target groups in a meaningful manner.

Mentioning that self-confidence and self-reliance are necessary for a person’s growth, the Lok Sabha Speaker urged them to have a strong will-power to dismantle barriers that impede their march towards progress. She called upon all stakeholders to contribute their bit to enable such persons to lead a normal life with dignity.
