A 21-year-old domestic help has been arrested along with his accomplice for allegedly committing robbery at his employer's residence in Karol Bagh here on Thursday.
The police received a complaint from Rashmi Arora alleging that she was alone in her house when her newly-employed domestic help named Pramod sought permission from her to meet his two friends who were waiting for him outside the house.
She was watching television in her bedroom when Pramod along with two young men, one of whom had his face covered with a shawl, entered and overpowered her. They put a handkerchief to her mouth, tied up her hands with a rope, hit her on the face to subdue her and then locked her up in the bathroom and decamped.
The woman managed to free herself and discovered that the robbers had taken away Rs.50,000 in cash, six gold rings, a diamond ring and four mobile phones besides other articles. Enquiries by the police revealed that Pramod had previously worked at the victim's residence about a year ago and had again joined a month back.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi) Devesh Chandra Srivastava said technical surveillance led to the arrest of two accused, Pramod alias Amod and Manoj Kumar (29), from whom Rs.48,000 in cash, the diamond ring and some other articles were recovered.
“A hunt has been launched for the third accused. The employers had not got the antecedents of the domestic help verified through the police,” he said.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they would gain access to the houses of affluent families posing as domestic help, win their confidence and then rob them of valuables before vanishing from the scene.
