An accused in the December 16 gang-rape case again changed his lawyer on Saturday. Mukesh removed advocate M. L. Sharma from the case and asked amicus curiae Rajeev Jain to represent him.
Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna discharged Mr. Sharma after Mukesh moved an application to change his counsel.
“At this stage, accused Mukesh filed an application stating inter alia that he intends to change his counsel and engage Rajeev Jain, advocate, as his counsel. On enquiry, he said that he is moving the application voluntarily. Since Mr. Jain has already been appointed amicus curiae in this case, so in view of the request he may appear on behalf of Mukesh,” Mr. Khanna said.
Before Mr. Sharma, Mukesh was represented by advocate V.K. Anand.
On April 19, after Mr. Sharma failed to turn up before the court on three consecutive days, the judge appointed Mr. Jain as amicus curiae.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police on Saturday opposed the bail plea of Akshay Singh who had pleaded that he be allowed to visit his ailing mother in Bihar.
The prosecution cited the gravity of the offence committed by the accused, the chances of him absconding and his conduct during investigations to oppose his bail plea.
