The trial in the Commonwealth Games Timing, Scoring and Results System contract award scam in which Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi is an accused has begun in a special court here.

Special CBI Judge Ravinder Kaur, who had framed charges for offences punishable under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act against ten accused, recorded the testimony of the first CBI witness, Ananda Swaroop, who worked as a Director of Publication for the Games Organising Committee (OC).

Ms. Swaroop deposed about the expression of interest (EoI) which was uploaded on the OC’s website regarding the procurement of Timing, Scoring and Results (TSR) equipment.

Mr. Kalmadi, Lalit Bhanot and the eight other accused are alleged to have caused a loss of over Rs.90 crore to the exchequer.
