Five persons, including a minor, were killed and two sustained injuries in separate accidents in the Capital during the past 24 hours.

Mukesh (25) was returning to his home in Wazirpur along with his friends Raj Kumar (24) and Mahender (23) when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle from behind near Kali Mata Mandir on Outer Ring Road in the early hours of Monday. Raj Kumar, who was driving, and Mahender sustained head injuries and died on the spot. Mukesh succumbed to injuries later at a hospital.

“All three were returning from the wedding of Mukesh's sister in Sultanpuri. Two of their friends following them on a motorcycle made a call to the Police Control Room following the accident and took them to hospital. The truck driver could not flee from the spot as the motorcycle got stuck in the wheels of the vehicle. The truck driver was in inebriated state at the time of accident and was arrested,” said a senior police officer.

Raj Kumar was a resident of Wazirpur. Mahender, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was staying on rent in Trinagar. All three worked for a private company.
