Five persons were killed and four injured in two different road mishaps in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand over the past 24 hours.

Two persons were killed and two injured when the jeep they were travelling in from Joshimath to Gopeshwar fell into the Alaknanda river near Pipalkoti on Wednesday.

Three persons were killed and two injured when the jeep they were travelling in from Virahi to Nijmula fell into a deep gorge near Virahi on Tuesday night. The injured were admitted to the Government Hospital in Joshimath, reports said.

Expressing anguish over the mishaps, Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank ordered officials to ensure good medical care to the injured and pay compensation to the next of kin of the deceased immediately.
