Muzaffarnagar: Five policemen and three others were on Saturday asked to appear before a session court here in connection with the death of two youths including a Dalit during their custody at Budhana police station in the district six years ago.

The Judicial Magistrate Ranu Rao on Saturday sent the case to a session court and asked all the eight accused to appear before it on September 17.

According to prosecution, two youths including a Dalit Padem Singh had died in police custody during interrogation at Budhana police station in 2003. A case was registered against the then Station House Officer of Budhana, Inspector Adesh Sharma, Sub-Inspector V. K. Tewatia, three constables -- Brijesh, Pravin and Hafis -- and three others, the prosecution said. -- PTI
