Even as the fire-fighting was on, the building caved in

NEW DELHI: Eight firemen sustained minor injuries while battling a big blaze at a foam factory in Okhla Industrial Area of South Delhi on Wednesday. Seven of the injured were discharged after first-aid.

According to the Fire Department, the fire broke out around 9-15 a.m. in a unit that was stuffed with inflammable materials. At that time, four labourers were inside the unit who rushed out to safety.

Over 35 fire tenders were pressed into action. Even as the fire-fighting was on, the building caved in.

First aid given

The injured firemen were taken to Apollo Hospital and All-India Institute of Medical Sciences where they were given first-aid. One of them, who complained of dizziness, has been kept under observation.

The fire was brought under control around 2 p.m.

Initial investigations suggested that the fire could have started due to an electric short-circuit. The police have registered a case of negligence and are contemplating action against the unit owner.
