In what is suspected to be an outcome of a “disappointing” result of a teenager in the Class XII Board examinations and an apprehension of a similar performance by her younger brother whose Class X Board results were awaited, three members of the family of a Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector allegedly consumed poison in Nihal Vihar here on Monday leading to the death of two of them.
The deceased have been identified as Kamlesh and her daughter Shivani. Shivani’s younger brother is reported to be out of danger, said the police.
Pradeep Kumar, who is posted at Vijay Vihar police station of Outer Delhi, spotted his wife and children lying unconscious on the floor of his Nihal Vihar house after he returned from duty and rushed them to a nearby hospital.
“On Monday, a call was made to the Police Control Room by the hospital authorities informing us that three patients had been brought there after they had consumed poison. Two of them were declared brought dead at the hospital while the boy underwent treatment and is now out of danger,” said a senior police officer.
Following his treatment, the boy purportedly told the police that his sister was depressed because of her results and he too was not expecting a good show in the Class X Board exams due to which they took the extreme step and their aggrieved mother followed suit. All three reportedly consumed insecticide.
According to the police, the post-mortem and viscera report of Kamlesh and Shivani are awaited.
