Had set himself afire outside the police headquarters

NEW DELHI: Shashi Kumar Shukla, the retired Assistant Commandant of the Border Security Force, who had set himself afire outside the police headquarters here on Tuesday, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. Meanwhile, the West Delhi police have ordered an inquiry into the allegations of maltreatment and humiliation meted out to Shashi by the staff of Uttam Nagar police station.

According to the police, Shashi, a resident of LIG Flats in Uttam Nagar, had suffered 90 per cent burn injuries on Tuesday and was admitted to LNJP Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries this morning. Last month, on October 5, Shashi had lodged a complaint against his neighbour, K. R. Puri, saying that he was harassing him and not allowing him to carry out construction in his flat which he wanted to use for commercial purposes. But the police did not take any action since it was of a civil nature.
