A man was trampled to death by an elephant in the Bibiwala Range forests near IDPL Rishikesh on Thursday. The mishap took place while the man was trying to get fuel wood from the forest. Angry villagers urged the authorities to immediately grant compensation to the family of the deceased.

Elephants are proving to be a big menace in villages and localities around Rishikesh and Haridwar. One elephant killed three persons over two days on the highway between Rishikesh and Dehra Dun recently. Similarly, panic prevails in the Indian Military Academy and surrounding localities after the sighting of a leopard on the campus. A leopard was also sighted in a school in Virpur Cantonment recently.
