Early detection crucial

Timely check-ups and proper awareness about breast cancer are essential for the prevention of the disease, said Delhi Minister of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Kiran Walia on Sunday.

“There is a mindset prevalent in many cancer patients that no one can save them. But they need to know that if it is detected in time, they can be saved,” said Dr. Walia at a seminar on “Breast Cancer in Young Women” here. The annual seminar was organised by ‘Cancer Sahyog’, the emotional support Group of Indian Cancer Society, Delhi. .

The seminar specially focused on women below 35 years of age who are increasingly at the risk. “It can affect anybody at any age. However, it has been seen that breast cancer among young women is increasing at an alarming rate,” said Chief of Head and Neck Surgery of Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre’s Head and Neck Surgery chief A.
