NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has carried out de-silting of 1,264 drains that come under its purview, in addition to 152 drains that come under the Public Works Department.

At a press conference here on Friday, Leader of the House Subhash Arya said though de-silting was scheduled to start in March this year, it began only in April because no contractors were willing to submit the tender due to non-payment of last year’s dues. As a result, all the de-silting up to now had been performed by the MCD workers.

Mr. Arya said though de-silting had been carried out, the silt had not yet been deposited at the MCD’s sanitary land fill sites because they were already full. As an alternative, the silt was being dumped at Savada Kheda, where it would be covered by rubble.
