The Haryana Vidhan Sabha passed a unanimous resolution on Wednesday condemning derogatory remarks against the great martyr Shaheed Bhagat Singh in two books of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education as reported in the media.

Soon after Question Hour and before the presentation of the State Budget, the Indian National Lok Dal legislators raised the matter by showing copies of the newspaper which had published the report. Responding immediately, Speaker Kuldeep Sharma said that it was a “serious matter'' and asked Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to make a statement. Mr. Hooda took strong exception to the derogatory reference and condemned the manner in which the great freedom fighter had been addressed in the books.

The books had described Shaheed Bhagat Singh as an “aatanki'' (terrorist) as per the media report.
