Properties include that of MLA Talvinder Marwah

Most of the razed properties belonged to builders

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi demolished nine illegal properties in the Central Zone here on Wednesday.

The main areas where the demolition exercise was undertaken included Govindpuri, Pul Prahladpur and Sangam Vihar.

According to an MCD official, properties belonging to MLA Talvinder Singh Marwah were also razed. Most of the demolished properties belonged to builders and were illegally built with “political connivance” and without getting the building plan sanctioned by the MCD.

“Brake on menace”

“The demolition action is being undertaken to put a brake on the menace of unauthorised construction as well as safeguard the interest of common denizens and ensure that such unscrupulous builders do not make a travesty of the law. Our department has targeted 230 properties since January and carried out 60 demolitions in April itself,” said the MCD official.

The civic authorities stated that the demotion drive in the zone would continue for the next two days.
