Jagdish Mukhi writes letter to Chief Minister

  • `Consumers in Delhi are fed up due to the fast running electronic meters'
  • `Discoms are continuing with their drive to replace the old meters'
  • NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi on Monday wrote a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit demanding that the Delhi Government issue orders for third party electric meter testing in the Capital on the pattern of Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC).

In the letter, Dr. Mukhi wrote that consumers in Delhi were fed up due to the fast running electronic meters. But despite several assurances by the Delhi Government in the House that forcible conversion of the old meters would not take place, the private power distribution companies (discoms) were continuing with their drive to replace the old meters.

The Leader of the Opposition also added that BJP had been demanding impartial testing of the electronic meters and this was only possible if a third party was involved. He added that several residents' welfare associations and other people's representatives have met the Delhi Government several times and the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission was compelled to issue the direction for the third party meter testing. "But it is astonishing that the discoms have not yet agreed for third party meter testing and the Government has also failed to take concrete steps for the implementation of third party meter testing," said Dr. Mukhi. He also demanded that the Chief Minister should compel the discoms to have a third party meter testing arrangement . "The RERC has invited tenders in this regard on April 13," he informed.
