NEW DELHI: Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain is planning to request the Delhi Government for temporary closure of all industrial units in the Capital one month before the Commonwealth Games.

“The hosting of the Games is a matter of great pride for each and every Delhiite. Such a move will provide a pollution-free ambience and a chance for factory workers to witness the international sporting event,” Dr. Sain said.

“As for compensating the workers, we have suggested that they be allowed to work for longer hours after the Games are over so that they can make up for the monetary loss through overtime. We have also suggested that they be given rebates in their electricity and water bills as well as to compensate for their loss of wages during that period,” he added.

If the Delhi Government approves of the idea, the Mayor would invite the heads of all these industrial units to chalk out a plan for their closure.
