Had met a pimp in jail where she was lodged in connection with a kidnapping case

The women thrust her into prostitution on pretext of getting a decent job

NEW DELHI:The Delhi High Court has rescued a teenaged girl from flesh trade and rehabilitated her by arranging a job with the help of a woman lawyer.

The girl is a resident of West Bengal and was a government servant before moving to Delhi. She had come to the Capital along with her father in search of a better job. She got a job as a domestic help at Vasant Vihar in South Delhi through two young men who had met her during her train journey to the Capital.

The young men and the unfortunate girl were later arrested on charges of kidnapping a child from a park in Vasant Vihar. The child was the son of the girl's employer.

When the girl was in jail in connection with the kidnapping case, a woman lodged there in a different case met her. The woman was engaged in a sex racket. She in the course of time developed intimacy with the girl and promised to get her a decent job.

When the woman came out of jail on bail she stood surety to get the girl out as well. Thereafter she took her to Swami Shraddhanand Marg, Delhi's red light area, on the pretext of getting her a job. Instead she was thrust into prostitution.

The sordid facts came to light when the girl did not appear before a trial court in connection with the kidnapping case. Following issuance of a non-bailable arrest warrant, the police arrested her and produced her before the court.

The girl's father was also in the dark about the release of his daughter from jail as he was not able to arrange a surety for her. He came to know that his daughter was in the clutches of the pimp during her appearance before the court in connection with the kidnapping case. But he was not allowed to meet his daughter as the pimp used to come along with the girl to the court escorted by musclemen. However, one day the girl managed to meet her father secretly in the court premises and revealed her sufferings at the hands of the woman.

Before moving the High Court to seek rescue of his daughter from the flesh trade, the girl's father pleaded in vain with the woman for her release. He also contacted some woman organisations but got no help.

Following issuance of a production warrant by a Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice A. K. Sikri and Justice Ajit Bharihoke on a habeas corpus petition filed by the girl's father, the Delhi Police produced her before the Court.

The girl in her interaction with the Judges in the chamber expressed her desire to stay with her mother. She is at present staying with her mother in a jhuggi in Delhi. She has also got a job with the help of advocate Aparna Bhatt. Ms. Bhatt got her the job on a request from the Bench.
