NEW DELHI: Once again criticising the Delhi Government on the issue of school fee hike, the Delhi Abhibhavak Mahasangh president Vijender Gupta has alleged that the State Government had “bypassed” the Bansal Committee’s recommendations to favour private schools.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Gupta said: “The Bansal Committee observed that 90 per cent private schools have no need to hike their tuition fee and that without the verification of the school accounts and annual statement, private schools should not be allowed to increase the fees. But the Delhi Government has bypassed these recommendations and permitted all schools to increase their fees. It is clear from the Government’s action that they are favouring private schools and allowing them to exploit the hapless parents.”

“Out of about 1,100 recognised schools only 43 schools approached the Director of Education for a fee hike and only 99 preferred to furnish the required data. The committee is of the opinion that the other schools not co-operating with the system are particularly those that remain in much demand for admissions and may be having enough funds not necessitating a fee increase,” he added.
