The Delhi BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha on Saturday staged a demonstration at Baljeet Nagar in the Patel Nagar Assembly constituency against scarcity of water, supply of dirty water, arbitrary water bills and widespread corruption in the Delhi Jal Board.
Leading the protests, Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta said despite Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit herself heading the Delhi Jal Board, people are still suffering due to either paucity of water or supply of contaminated water.
Mr. Gupta alleged that 40 per cent of the DJB water was being sold in the black market in collusion with the water and tanker mafia. He also charged that a conspiracy was being hatched to privatise water supply. “If water supply is also privatised like power then the people already suffering due to price rise will have to pay ten times more for the drinking water,” he said.
Noting that the common man will not be able to afford water then, he said BJP will intensify its agitation for the rights of the citizens. The BJP leader also charged that the Delhi Jal Board was steeped in corruption and “contractors are being paid three times for the same work”. Despite this being in the knowledge of the Chief Minister, not a single high-level officer has been punished so far, he said.
BJP SC Morcha president Krishan Lal Dhillod said it was shameful that water meant for the common man is being sold in the black market by the tanker mafia.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP media convener Vivek Sharma led another demonstration against scarcity of water and inflated water bills in Malviya Nagar in South Delhi.
