The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has blamed the district administration and the police for the past Wednesday's developments in Bharatpur district's Gopalgarh which has claimed nine lives so far. The deaths were not due to clashes between two communities but between the police and the Meos, the party said.

The party has supported the demand of the victims' kin for enhanced financial support, employment to a member of the affected family and registering criminal cases against the Collector and the guilty police personnel.

CPI(M) Rajasthan State Secretary Vasudev, who was part of a delegation comprising Rajya Sabha member Tapan Sen, party's Bharatpur district secretary Dinesh Shukla and others, which visited the affected areas on Monday, said in a statement here that timely action by the administration on the land dispute between the two communities could have averted the confrontation altogether.
