Delhi police withdraws "Look-Out Circular'' against them

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday ordered release of the passports of socialite Bina Ramani, her husband George Mailhot and their daughter, fashion designer Malini Ramani, when the Delhi police informed it that they had withdrawn the "Look-Out Circular'' (LOC) issued against them for their alleged role in destruction of evidence in the Jessica Lal murder case.

However, Bina Ramani's passport will remain with the trial court for some more time as she is facing prosecution in a forgery case.

Standing Counsel Mukta Gupta informed Justice B.D. Ahmed of the police decision to withdraw the LOC. However, she gave no reasons for the decision.

The investigating agency had booked them under Section 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code following the Court taking suo motu note of media reports about alleged shoddy investigation into the case and connivance of police personnel connected with the probe and the witnesses, leading to the fall of the case in the trial court.

The trial court had acquitted all nine accused, including Siddharth Vashishtha alias Manu Sharma, in February last year.
