In yet another major setback to the Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank Government in Uttarakhand, the Uttarakhand High Court on Tuesday quashed the Government's dismissal orders and reinstated Madhu Chauhan as the Chairperson of the Dehra Dun Zila Parishad.
Ordering the reinstatement, a single-judge Bench headed by Justice Tarun Agrawal observed that the Government took the decision to remove Ms. Chauhan from the post in haste without going into details regarding the complaints against her.
This is the second case in which the High Court has reversed the government orders. Earlier it had reinstated the Ramnagar Nagar Panchayat chairman Mohd. Akram saying that the Government had acted without going into the merits of the case against him.
The State Government had dismissed Ms. Chauhan on February 18 last on charges of financial irregularities and spending a better part of the funds in Vikas Nagar which was the constituency of her husband, Munna Singh Chauhan the ruling BJP MLA, who resigned two years ago accusing the saffron party of playing games with the development of the State.
Welcoming the High Court judgement, a large number of Ms. Chauhan's supporters staged a victory procession in Vikas Nagar.
