The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to explain why the Chief Minister was the chairman of the general council of the Ram Manohar Lohia Law University Lucknow, while in all other National Law Universities the post is occupied by the State Chief Justice.

A Division Bench of Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice Mahenrdra Dayal passed the order on a writ petition filed by Uttar Pradesh based social activist Nutan Thakur.

The court asked the State Government why a vice-chancellor had not been appointed in the law university so far. The court also sought the position of appointment of V-C in Lucknow University and Faizabad University.
