In what appears to be a case of road rage, a municipal councillor and his brother were roughed up by four men after their vehicle was hit by a goods carrier at Vikaspuri here on Monday. The two have been admitted to a hospital.

Councillor Balbir Tyagi and his brother Vikas were going in their car when a goods carrier hit their vehicle at Vikas Kunj around 11-15 a.m. This led to an altercation between the two parties and a fight broke out. The four men travelling in the goods carrier beat up Mr. Tyagi and his brother.

The area residents intervened, following which the police were called in. The four young men, identified as Rajesh, Amit, Gopal and Amit Kumar, were taken into custody and the injured councillor and his brother were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital for a medical check-up. “The doctors have kept them under observation. The councillor's brother has some abrasions, but he does not appear to have sustained any major external injury. However, he has undergone tests as a precaution,” said a police officer.

Based on a complaint, the police have registered a case, arrested the four accused and impounded the vehicle. “The accused were transporting household goods when the incident took place,” he added.
