Two persons, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a policeman at Rani Bagh in North-West Delhi on Monday.

According to the police, Deepak Kumar and the woman were travelling in a car which hit Dharmendra Saini’s motorcycle from behind and sped away. It was chased by him, after which both parties got into a heated argument. Head constable Sahan Singh, who reached the spot after a call was made to the PCR, tried to intervene.

“Deepak, who was driving, became very aggressive and started misbehaving with Mr. Singh. Soon, the woman also came out and started hurling abuses. She threatened to tear her clothes in order to implicate them in a false case,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) P. Karunakaran. A medical examination later confirmed the duo was under the influence of alcohol. A case was registered and both were arrested.

In a similar incident in Bhajanpura over the weekend, a head constable and two constables were allegedly assaulted while attending to a distress call from a woman allegedly molested by a group of men. Head constable Karan Singh has also alleged that the attackers tried to take away his pistol forcibly.

The victim was on her way home, when Praveen and his friends molested her. Responding to the call, the personnel reached the spot, where they caught hold of Praveen and started enquiring about the incident. His accomplices, who had fled when he was being questioned, returned along with his family members and assaulted the policemen.

A case has been registered under several Sections. No arrests have been made so far, but a senior officer said a hunt has been launched to nab the accused. An anticipatory bail plea moved by them has been rejected by a city court.
