Fears expressed about yatra leading to violence came true: Peddapalli MP
NEW DELHI: Congress MPs from Telangana on Saturday asked Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who vowed to undertake his failed ‘Odarpu Yatra' in Warangal district following violence on Friday, not to vitiate the atmosphere and disturb peace in Telangana. Instead of touring again he should strengthen the party and not damage its image, said Peddapalli MP G. Vivekanand.
Though Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy had declared that his yatra was not political, he should not hurt the sentiments of Telangana people as he had held a placard in Lok Sabha while protesting against creation of a separate State. The fears expressed by the Telangana Congress MPs to the high command on Mr. Jagan's yatra had come true as there was violence in Mahabubabad and other areas, Mr. Vivekanand said. Moreover, the high command too had directed Mr. Jagan not to undertake such yatra as it might lead into problem, he said.
He said the Telangana Congress MPs had told the Congress leadership that the yatra ‘would reignite' the feelings of the people on the statehood issue as he (Mr. Jagan) was publicly opposed to the idea.
Other MPs who made similar appeal were Manda Jaganatham, Sukhender Reddy, Balaram Naik and Rajaiah.
