NEW DELHI: The Delhi Congress Legislature Party unanimously passed a resolution on Thursday congratulating Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi on winning the vote of confidence in Parliament.

Speakers at the meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, said that it was the direction, leadership and thoughtfulness of the two leaders that led to Parliament approving the proposed nuclear deal with the U.S.

The resolution said the trust vote also indicated that the people of the country want social and economic development and would like to see the country stand out as a scientifically advanced and powerful entity in the comity of nations.

‘Raised India’s standing’

Ms. Dikshit said the nuclear deal had raised India’s standing not only in the eyes of its own people but also among the developed and leading nations of the world.

The Chief Minister said now India would also make its presence felt among powerful countries like the U.S., Russia, China and France. The resolution also expressed its gratitude to all the MPs who had voted for the motion of confidence.

Forty-three of a total of 47 Congress MLAs attended the meeting.
