Stepping up her attack on the ruling Congress' policies and projects, Rajasthan BJP president Vasundhara Raje on Sunday charged the Ashok Gehlot government of ruining the Jaipur's skyline with the ambitious Metro rail project.

“What we have seen, in Delhi and elsewhere, is that the Metro should be underground. People from all over India come to Rajasthan for its beauty but this project has ruined it,” said Ms. Raje.

There have been concerns of engineering and safety but this government just wants to get it started at any cost to score political points, she said.

“The government is trying to dazzle the people with the Metro project. But they have completely ruined Jaipur's skyline,” she said, during a brief interaction with journalists, after taking stock of the preparations for the Suraj Sankalp Sammelan here.

The Suraaj Sankalp Sammelan, to be held here on Tuesday, is the BJP's first big pre-election spectacle, featuring Gujarat Chief Minister and head of the party's election campaign committee Narendra Modi.

The event, which marks the culmination of Ms. Raje's Suraaj Sankalp Yatra and the first phase of the BJP's poll campaign, will also be attended by BJP national president Rajnath Singh.

However, for all practical purposes, it is a “Modi” event.

“After four months of the very successful Suraaj Sankalp Yatra, we will sound the poll bugle on 10th September and enter the second phase of our campaign,” said Ms. Raje.

“People of all religions and communities will be represented at the Sammelan,” she said.
