NEW DELHI: Delhi High Court Chief Justice Markandey Katju on Saturday appealed to lawyers of Tis Hazari court here not to resort to strike on January 2 against the setting up of a permanent Mediation Cell in the court complex.

``Such strike would cause great hardship to the litigant public'', the Chief Justice said in his appeal. The lawyers are opposing the Mediation Cell which started functioning in October for out of court settlement of cases. However, Delhi Bar Association President Rajiv Khosla said the lawyers were opposing the Mediation Cell as they were apprehensive about the involvement of foreign funds and lawyers in it. Withdrawing judges to be trained as mediators and putting them for working with the Mediation Cell affected their regular work, Mr. Khosla complained. PTI
