Two members of a Child Welfare Committee, one on behalf of the State Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia, handed over a cheque for Rs.1 lakh to the 13-year-old Dalit victim of gang-rape who is under treatment at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences here. The girl had on Monday consumed a cocktail of drugs allegedly in an attempt to commit suicide for the second time in the past few days.

“I along with another CWC Member S.P. Sharma went to check on the victim. She is in a healthy condition and has been provided a separate room. As instructed by Prof. Walia, we in coordination with the Delhi Legal Services Authority handed over the cheque to the mother. We also issued instructions to the Farsh Bazar Station House Officer to open an account with a Farsh Bazar branch of the State Bank of India in her name. The account has been opened now,” said CWC Member Dr. B. Ramaswamy.
