Punjab Cabinet approved the ambitious Rs. 1,427-crore project which will link the city with its satellite town Mohali, on Wednesday.
The decision to link S.A.S. Nagar Mohali with Chandigarh was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, an official spokesman said here.
The total length of the metro rail covering Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali is 37.57 km.
It is to be completed at a cost of Rs. 10,900 crore.
One corridor of 12.49 km, of which 3.97 km is in Mohali city, will be developed from Capital Complex Chandigarh to Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan Sector 70 in Mohali.
A second corridor with a length of 25.07 km will be from Mullanpur (Punjab) to Grain Market Panchkula (Haryana). 3.87 kms of the corridor will be in Mullanpur . - PTI
