Khanpur MLA Kunwar Pranav Singh “Champion”, who had allegedly opened fire during the dinner party at the residence of Agriculture Minister Harak Singh Rawat here on Tuesday, surrendered before the Dehradun cantonment police on Friday evening. He was granted bail at the police station.
His surrender comes in wake of Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal’s statement on Friday that Mr. “Champion” had opened fire and injured two persons, including Congress leader Vivekanand Khanduri, at the party. Highly critical of the incident, Mr. Kunjwal had said that such irresponsible behaviour was not expected from a public representative.
A police team has been sent to the MLA’s house in Haridwar to procure the gun used in the firing, Senior Superintendent of Police Kewal Khurana said. Mr. “Champion” had allegedly fired several shots in the air during the party, where several Ministers and Congress MLAs were present. Mr. Khanduri, who received injuries in both legs, is still in hospital.
