Bus was standing outside Kashmere Gate ISBT

A 38-year-old businessman and his brother were killed and their cousin sustained serious injuries when their car rammed a stationary Punjab Roadways bus outside the Kashmere Gate ISBT here in the early hours of Thursday.

The car hit the bus at such a high-speed that a traffic crane and fire-tender had to be called to the spot to pull out the mangled vehicle from under the bus.

The bus had stopped near the entry gate of ISBT to let passengers get off when the accident took place.

Dheeraj Gupta and his brother Mohit, both residents of Mall Road, were returning home from a wedding at Chhatarpur in their Hyundai Verna car along with their cousin Gunjan around 1 a.m. when they hit the bus from behind.

Soon passers-by gathered at the spot and pulled out Gunjan (35), who was sitting on the rear seat. She was taken to Sushruta Trauma Centre in a Police Control Room vehicle and was declared unfit for statement.

Later, a team from the Kashmere Gate police station reached the spot and tried to pull out Dheeraj, who was in the driving seat, and Mohit, but failed. The team then called a traffic crane and fire-tender and pulled out the car from under the bus. The victims were taken to a hospital, where they were declared brought dead.

Dheeraj and Mohit ran a jewellery shop in Chandni Chowk, while Gunjan is a resident of Defence Colony.

Bus driver Sunil, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, was arrested at the spot. A case has been registered against him under Sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) of the Indian Penal Code.
