NEW DELHI: Former Badarpur MLA and Nationalist Congress Party candidate for the upcoming Delhi Assembly by-election from Okhla, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, during his campaign on Saturday assured the residents of Sarita Vihar that he would work towards improving the security in the constituency.

Meanwhile, East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit campaigned for the party candidate Farhad Suri in the constituency that would be going to the polls on September 15.

Mr. Bidhuri, who interestingly had worked hard for Mr. Dikshit during the recent Lok Sabha elections and had quit the Congress on the eve of the last day of filing of nominations for the by-election, went round all 11 pockets and Janata flats in Sarita Vihar and met the office-bearers of the residents’ welfare associations there.

The NCP candidate claimed that the work done by him in the area, which was earlier part of his Badarpur constituency, had led to all-round improvement there. Be it the construction of the underpass at Sarita Vihar, dense carpeting of roads, development of parks, construction of the foot over-bridge on Kalindi Kunj Road or bringing Ganga water to the constituency, he had worked on all these schemes when he was the local MLA.

Many office-bearers also declared their support to Mr. Bidhuri saying that while he was a local candidate, some prominent political parties had fielded candidates from outside the constituency.

East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit attended a public meeting in Aali Village in support of Mr. Suri. Speaking on the occasion, he promised to pursue various development projects planned for the area with vigour and use his influence at the state and national level to get them implemented.

Urging people of Okhla to come out in large numbers and vote for the Congress on the basis of its past performance and future policies for the State, the Congress MP said: ``I want to continue working for holistic development of the area, while ensuring that facilities and civic services are at par with the most developed parts of the city and in doing so smoothly I want a friend like Mr. Farhad Suri to support me.”
