NEW DELHI: The office of the Chief Electoral Officer has launched a voter awareness campaign using song-based jingles and advertisements to encourage the common man to vote.
The CEO’s office observed on Tuesday that voting and activities pertaining to formation of the government generally take a back seat and many times electors keep away from voting on various pretexts. Though they do not take part in the voting, they crib about civic amenity problems they encounter subsequently.
According a release, some of these prospective voters can be classified as “apathetic electors”, for despite the fact that they use the civic amenities they do not undertake the responsibility of casting their votes. Some of them can be generally classified as ‘neutral electors’. They obtain photo-identity cards for all other purposes, like obtaining passport and driving licence, but do not vote. The new campaign targets such electors, requesting them to cast their votes during the mock exercise on November 20 so that they are reminded of exercising their franchise on the actual polling date in Delhi, November 29.
