NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet’s Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the upgradation of the Jammu-Srinagar stretch of the National Highway into a four-lane road at a cost of Rs. 8,436 crore. Chaired by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, in the absence of convalescing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the panel also cleared a scheme to improve the road infrastructure in several naxalite-affected areas in the country at a cost of Rs. 7,300 crore.
