A 25-year-old businessman has been arrested along with his two accomplices for allegedly murdering his younger brother in Jyoti Nagar here earlier this month.
The accused, Arshad, was jealous of his brother Shahdab, who owned an aluminium door fittings factory, as their father purportedly took more interest in the latter's business and treated him preferentially, the police said.
Shahdab was found dead in a pool of blood on Kacha Road near a college on May 11. His throat was slit and the body bore injury marks by a sharp-edged weapon. His gold chain and cash were also found missing.
Taking up investigation, the police zeroed in on two suspects who were found absconding. The two -- Adil and Sajjad -- were arrested on May 19.
During interrogation, the two purportedly told the police that they had gone to Arshad seeking financial help when he offered to pay them Rs.1 lakh for murdering his younger brother. Arshad paid them Rs.20,000 in advance for the job.
As per the plan, Arshad called up Shahdab saying that he had met with an accident at an isolated place on May 10 night.
When Shahdab reached the spot, Arshad took him near a drain where Adil and Sajjad were waiting for him. The three allegedly overpowered Shahdab. Adil then took a country-made pistol and tried to fire at him, but the weapon did not go off. Adil then slit Shahdab's throat with a knife, while Arshad held his legs, the police said. Shadhad sustained bruises on stomach and hands while trying to free himself.
The police claim to have recovered a country-made pistol, a gold chain, a knife and the blood-stained clothes of Arshad.
