Rs.150 crore for Ministry of Sports and 350 crore for the Delhi Government

    NEW DELHI: The Union Budget has made a provision of Rs.150 crore for the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Rs.350 crore for the Delhi Government for creation of infrastructure and facilities for the Commonwealth Games-2010 to be held here in Delhi.

    As per the note on Demands for Grants 2007-08, the Commonwealth Games-2010 are scheduled to be held in Delhi from October 3 to 14, 2010. The Government of India has agreed to guarantee free entry for all accredited athletes and delegations of all participating countries as well as to underwrite any shortfall between revenue and expenditure of the Organising Committee.

    The Government has constituted a core Group of Ministers (GoM) for coordination of all the work related to the conduct of the Games. The GoM in turn has approved constitution of various other committees including the Organising Committee.

    According to the note, the GoM has re-confirmed the site of the Games Village and recommended the manner of funding and utilisation of the Games Village. The GoM has also approved disciplines and venues for various events for the Commonwealth Games-2010.

    The agencies concerned have been requested to take necessary action with regard to finalisation of their concept plan and design based on global tendering. The final documents would then be placed before the GoM for its consideration.

    During the Games, competitive events would be held in 19 disciplines namely athletics, archery, aquatics, badminton, billiards and snooker, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, lawn bowls, netball, rugby, shooting, squash, table tennis, tennis, weightlifting and wrestling.
